Pineland Allamanda - Long Pine Key, Everglades National Park

This morning I spent an hour or so photographing flowers in the prairie just north of Long Pine Key. I photographed a number of flowers, several of which I have not been able to identify using my wildlifer books. Regardless, this is one of my favorites. It is the Pineland Allamanda and I photographed it one other time but the flower was not completely open. See today's newsletter for more of the flower photographs.

Interesting Sightings

I found a White-tailed Kite along Research Road flying away from the abandoned Missle Base.

Other Interesting Observations:

At 1:00 this afternoon I found a White-tailed Deer feeding along the side of the road. It allowed me to approach within almost 20 feet without even looking up. I was surprised not only to see a deer at midday but also one that was so tame.
