Red-banded Hairstreak - Long Pine Key, Everglades National Park

I am about to go crazy in this weather. Today we were supposed to get storms yet again but the first rain I was aware of just started as I write this. However, today was heavily overcast and very windy. Early afternoon found me headed in to town for a few errands and then back into the park where I found a nice deer (see below). When I arrived in Long Pine Key, I began a search for a rare butterfly that I looked for the other day, the Florida Leafwing. I did not find one but did find this beautiful Red-banded Hairstreak among a few others. We are supposed to have more rain tomorrow but hopefully by Sunday it will clear up a bit.

I also forgot to mention that yesterday I uploaded a Landscapes page under the photographs section of my website. Enjoy!.

Interesting Sightings

  None.

Other Interesting Observations:

I saw my first Northern Bobwhite in the park this evening along the entrance road into the Long Pine Key area. I also saw an adult female White-tailed Deer along the main road in the park in an area where I have seen her several times in the last few weeks. However, today was nice because she had a good sized fawn with her.
