Today I had planned to canoe out into the 10,000 Islands area on the west coast to photograph the old homesites on some of the local islands. However, after driving three hours across the state I arrived about 7:00 am and found myself in the middle of a lightning storm. I put my chair back and spent the next three and a half hours napping in the driver's seat and checking the weather periodically and found nothing but very heavy rain. After making a couple phone calls to friends who checked radar and satellites images for me, I decided that it was going to be several hours before it would clear up enough for me to feel comfortable launching my canoe and at that point I wouldn't have enough time for the seven mile canoe trip to the island, enough time to photograph, and then seven miles back. I headed back to Flamingo to relax and start getting life organized around the trailer.
