Least Tern Courtship - Tigertail Beach, Marco Island, Florida
|
Over the past few weeks a very rare sandpiper was reported at Tigertail Beach in Marco Island. I was heading up the west coast of the state to meet my family for a nice relaxing Mother's Day weekend and decided to stop to see if I could find the sandpiper. Turns out the bird was incorrectily identified and wsa actually a common bird. Instead of chasing the sandpiper I spent over an hour photographing a pair of Least Terns that were exhibiting courtship behavior. The male catches a minnow and brings it back to the female who is waiting nearby. I was able to watch this behavior for quite a while and captured the exchange several times.
