Alligator Hole - Willowhead, Everglades National Park

I don't know when this post will actually be posted since this afternoon I lost my phone service and have not been able to get onto the internet since. I will investigate the problem tomorrow and see if I can figure out what is wrong. Anyway, today I explored a willowhead that was located just northeast of Mahogany Hammock. I had not been inside one yet and the particular one I entered had a nice alligator hole in the center. While the surrounding marsh was extremely dry, the alligator hole held water and was teeming with minnows, frogs, and even a few birds in the trees along with two bird nests that I am not sure were active or not. I was suprised to see two Pond Apples growing in the middle of the willowhead on the side of the pond. I would have spent more time here and exploring others but severe weather was moving through the area and I decided to get out of the open. I heard one report saying that the Visitor Center at Royal Palm was hit by a tornado. I don't know if this is true but I plan to check it out tomorrow.
