This morning was fairly quiet around the Fort compared to yesterday. Many of the birds had left but some were still around. We did not find anything new except for a Blackburnian Warbler that I missed. We left the dock about 9:00 and headed back to the mainland. Just before arriving in Key West we recieved the unbelievable news about the rediscovery of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker in eastern Arkansas. I still can't believe this is actually happening. I am completely amazed that the bird is still alive but even more than that I am thoroughly impressed with the secrecy and ability of The Nature Conservancy and Cornell Lab to act quickly to conserve the land surrounding this spectacular find. I look forward to hearing more about the "Lord God Bird" and maybe see it someday in the distant future.
