This image is of the tiny purple bloom of a fairly large bromeliad. These plants produce large "blooms" that are red and green spikes that sprout out of the middle of the plant. Out of the large red and green blooms sprout tiny purple blooms that are the actual flower that houses the reproductive organs of the plant. Bromeliads are commonly found throughout the Everglades and the Stiff-leafed Wild Pine, also known as the Cardinal Airplant, is one of the most common.
