White-tailed Deer - Randall's Ranch, Okeechobee, FL

I had the opporunity to photograph at a large ranch in south central Florida that is owned by a family friend. This portion of the 4,400 acre ranch where I was working was mostly pine flatwoods with interspersed pastures. The ranch is home to a very large number of White-tailed Deer and even a few Red Stag and Fallow Deer have been introduced into a small portion of the ranch. This doe was laying in the grass in the late afternoon light. The deer on this ranch are some of the most beautiful and largest deer I have seen in the state. They are acclimated to people's presence so while photographing them isn't easy, it is much easier than other places.
The reason I had gone to the ranch was to photograph a fairly large Swallow-tailed Kite population. Due to bad weather I was not able to photograph the kites but during a break in the rain we did find a nest that we believe to be used by one of the Kites.  It was a gorgeous piece of property and I hope to return in the future to photograph the deer, turkeys, and other pineland species that are common on the property.

Interesting Sightings

  None.

Other Interesting Observations:

On the ranch we found Northern Bobwhite, Wild Turkey, Eastern Bluebird, Swallow-tailed Kites, White-tailed Deer, and a number of various hogs.
