Great Egret Landing after Sunset - Anhinga Trail, Royal Palm

Today I started the day off at Eco Pond at sunrise where I did not photograph but rather just birded with a group of people I met there. I then proceeded to try and launch my canoe into the wet prarie region where I had been hiking yesterday evening but there was not enough water.  I decided to head over to Paurotis Pond since it was nearby and launch there.  The intersting thing about Paurotis Pond is that it is only open to boat launching when there is not a Wood Stork rookery on the far side.  Since it is still too early for the storks to start nesting I took advantage of it being open. After a very nice time on the lake I headed up to Royal Palm to hike and photograph along Gumbo Limbo Trail and Anhinga Trail. Both were rather successful and once again I met up with some people with whom I spent the evening photographing.

Interesting Sightings

At Paurotis Pond there were at least a half dozen Roseate Spoonbills in the trees. I also paddled up on a flock of Blue-winged Teal and found a pair of Black-necked Stilts hanging out with a Yellowlegs. Also had several warbler species in the mangroves along the edge. Along the Gumbo Limbo Trail I found several Hermit Thrush one of which was feeding on an earthworm. I also saw a beautiful male Blue-headed Vireo in the hammock. The most exciting bird of the day was a "Pink Ibis" (a Scarlet Ibis x White Ibis Hybrid) that flew in to roost near the platform at Anhinga Trail.

Other Interesting Observations:

Today was nice because of the interaction with a number of different people who took an interest in my project and what I am doing down here.
