Little Blue Heron in Evening Sunlight - Anhinga Trail, Royal Palm

Today, I experienced the park as most visitors do, from a car with a few stops at various pulloffs. I hiked all the short trails and saw all the sites from the park entrance all the way to Flamingo. It was an interesting experience and I think it will be a great comparison to how I will be exploring the park in the next few months.

Interesting Sightings

Today's best birds were an American Bittern at Anhinga Trail in the evening and several warblers at West Lake along the mangrove trail. The only mammals and reptiles seen continue to be alligators and marsh rabbits.

Other Interesting Observations:

Today's experience of "the Everglades from the road" I think will provide an interesting comparison once I have gotten off the road and into the wilderness. I am interested to know if the views along the highway are actually representative of what the Everglades really are.
