Osprey at Nest - Flamingo

Today started off with photographing this Osprey nest. The mother was slightly stressed by our presence so we left as soon as she began showing signs. Checking with the nest a few hours later everything seemed fine so we were not worried. In the few minutes we were there I was able to capture a few images as the mother left the nest and returned with a large stick which she carefully placed into the nest. After leaving I headed into town to take care of some arrands and returned to Anhinga Trail for an evening shoot. The shoot started off with a light phase Short-tailed Hawk soaring above allowing me to take some nice images of a bird I have only seen one other time. The rest of the trail was teeming with bird life including a Great Egret that is developing spectacular breeding plumage and two Anhinga nests that have chicks in them that can only be a few days old. These birds are acclimated to the the large volume of people that hike the boardwalk each day and are not disturbed by our presence at all. I am going to return tomorrow mornign to photograph them in the good light as tonight they were in complete shadow. As always, the well-being of the birds is top priority.

Interesting Sightings

I did see the Pink Ibis again this evening at Anhinga Trail.  Tonight I followed it in through my binoculars and had a much better view. The bird is not complety uniform pink but much of its plumage has a light pink tint similiar to that of a Roseate Spoonbill. Next time I will try and photograph the bird now that I had a good look at it.

Other Interesting Observations:

It took a drive through the campground this evening to see my first Raccoons for the trip. They have always been very visible in past trips but I have usually been staying in the camprgound where they take advantage of the food left out by campers.
