Today was my first full day in the Everglades and most of it was spent driving to and from Ft. Lauderdale. However, I did spend my first morning at sunrise walking Eco Pond. My dad and I were disappointed with how overgrown everything had become and how difficult it was to see the water. We did manage a few good birds but it was much more difficult than either of us had remembered from past visits a number of years ago.
In Ft. Lauderdale I stopped by the Best Western Marina on S.E. 17th Street after having some lunch. A Bananaquit had been reported at the marina and there were two other birders there watching it. The bird provided great close views and I was able to obtain some record photographs but nothing great. After returning to the park we stopped at Anhinga Trail but most of the birds had gone to roost and things were very slow.

Interesting Sightings

The Bananaquit in Ft. Lauderdale was the best bird of the trip so far. For more details on where the bird was seen please send me an email.
