Royal Palm Sunset - Royal Palm, Everglades National Park

Today I had a few moments of brilliance when I finally had a vision of how I want the final product of this project to look. The final product will have three parts: this website, a photo exhibit, and a book. Each aspect will take advantage of the characteristics of the particular medium and allow me to do exactly what I want. I will have a full write up on my current vision for this project in tomorrow's newsletter.
This evening I photographed at Anhinga Trail. While the birds were plentiful as usual, the real treat was the sunset. I have been looking at these three Royal Palms for weeks now just waiting for the right sky to silhouette them, and tonight I finally had something to work with. I was also able to capture the crescent moon among the trees later in the evening.

Interesting Sightings

I spent an hour or so looking for owls with several other birders. While we did not find the usual species (Eastern Screech, Barred, Great Horned), we did come across a single Burrowing Owl on Research Road. One birder with us, Paul Bithorn, has been birding the park for many years and this was the first time he has seen one in the park. There was also a lone Lesser Nighthawk hunting in the prairie along the same stretch of road.

Other Interesting Observations:

  None.
