Northern Mockingbird - Eco Pond, Everglades National Park

After an early morning run to Ft. Lauderdale I spent the rest of the day birding my way back south through Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and Kendall. I found two new life birds, a Groove-billed Ani at the Ft. Lauderdale airport and a Red-whiskered Bulbul in Kendall. The ani has been seen with two Smooth-billed Anis for several weeks now and the bulbul is regularly seen in Kendall neighborhoods. I had not been to Eco Pond in a while and decided to see if any early migrants had arrived. I struck out on migrants but did find this mockingbird which was posing quite nicely. After loading the images onto my computer I noticed the birds short lower mandible. I will keep my eyes open to see how this bird does with the damaged bill.

Interesting Sightings

I was pleased to find a male Painted Bunting this evening while I was working my way around Eco Pond this evening.

Other Interesting Observations:

  None.
